Lithologische beschrijving
Thick, red-rown, sandy clay- and siltstone interval with some intercalated sand-/siltstone stringers and beds. Anhydritic nodules are common in the claystones of some intervals. Some thin carbonate, anhydrite, and halite beds occur locally.

Playa lake.
Definitie ondergrens
Conformably on the Silverpit Evaporite Member, from which it can be discerned by the absence of thick beds of evaporites (halite and/or anhydrite).
Definitie bovengrens
Overlain paraconformably by the black bituminous shales of the Coppershale Member of the Zechstein 1 (Werra) Formation.

Name derived from the main lithology and the stratigraphic position in the upper part of the Silverpit Formation in the centre of the basin.
