Lithologische beschrijving
Dark green clay, sandy, and sand, fining upward. Glauconitic, fossiliferous (rich Miocene fauna), shelly lag forms base of Aalten Member (Breda Formation; Van den Bosch et al. 1975). Horizon with phosphorite concretions near the top.
Afzettingsmilieu
Warm shallow marine.
Definitie ondergrens
Unconformable contact with marine clay (Rupel Formation).
Definitie bovengrens
Sharp unconformable contact with fluvioglacial gravel (Drente Formation, Schaarsbergen Member). Diffuse transition into shallow-marine clayey sand (Stemerdink Bed, Breda Formation).
