Lithologische beschrijving

Grey to brown very fine to very coarse sand, locally gravelly. Dark grey to dark brown laminated clay (stiff, silty, calcareous), locally glauconitic, shelly, layered with silty fine to medium sand, with dropstones. Peripheral coarse sand.

Afzettingsmilieu

Glaciolacustrine, with accumulation of suspended sediment in tongue basins partly flanked by steep ice-pushed ridges (source of coarse sand deposited by mass flow caused by slumping; De Gans et al. 1987, 2000).

Definitie ondergrens

Generally sharp contact with mostly gravelly fluvial sand.

Definitie bovengrens

Sharp contact with coarse fluvial sand (Kreftenheye Formation), gradual transition into fine to medium marine clay (Eem Formation) or fluviolacustrine clay (Kreftenheye Formation).

Dikte indicatie
Up to about 60 m in tongue basins, up to 5 m elsewhere.
