Oorsprong naam
The name ‘Germanic Trias’ has been derived from the German stratigraphic nomenclature, where it refers to the sedimentary sequence between the evaporitic Zechstein Group and the marine Altena Group. The prefix ‘Upper’ applies to that part of the Germanic Trias which occurs above the Base Solling Unconformity (= Spathian Unconformity).
