Formal (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1994).
Lithological description

Red, light-red to light-grey claystone and siltstone, interbedded with anhydrite. It may contain some sandstone beds, in particular in the Off Holland Low.

Depositional setting

Fine-grained mudflat - sabkha deposit.

Definition of lower boundary

Placed at the top of the Z1 Anhydrite or the Z1 Fringe Carbonate members.

Definition of upper boundary

Upper boundary is placed at the base of the claystones of the Red-brown Salt Clay Member.

Thickness indication
Up to 80 m.
Geographical distribution
Southern part of the country in the basin fringe area
