RNSOB
Status
Formal (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1994).
Lithological description
Light-coloured, massive or cross-bedded, and dolomite-cemented, sandstone interval.
Depositional setting
Fluvial (braided river) and eolian.
Definition of lower boundary
Not yet defined. Along the basin margin, where sandy sediments prevail, it may be difficult to distinguish the boundary between the underlying Main Buntsandstein Subgroup and the Basal Solling Sandstone Member. This is particularly true for well sections that are studied in isolation. ln such cases it is possible to lump the formations (Volpriehausen, Detfurth and Hardegsen) together with the Basal Solling Sandstone Member into the informal middle Bunter sandstone (RBBM).
Definition of upper boundary
Not yet defined.
Thickness indication
Locally exceeds 10 m in thickness.
Geographical distribution

Age
latest Olenekian - earliest Anisian.
