Lithological description
Grey to yellow very fine to medium sand, grey loam, and grey humic clay, sandy. Subordinate peat layers and gyttja.
Depositional setting
Small-scale fluvial or fluvioperiglacial (brook), including channel (sand), overbank (silt and clay) and swamp (peat and gyttja).
Definition of lower boundary
Sharp contact with glacial sediment (Drente Formation), gradual transition into fluvial sand (Kreftenheye and Stramproy Formations), unconformable contact with coversand (Wierden Member, Boxtel Formation) and loess (Liempde Member, Boxtel Formation).
Definition of upper boundary
Commonly exposed at the surface. Locally, sharp contact with tidal sand and clay (Naaldwijk Formation) or unconformable contact with coversand (Wierden Member, Boxtel Formation).
Thickness indication
Up to 5 m.
Geographical distribution
Along brook valleys in the eastern (Pleistocene) half of the Netherlands.

North Sea: Twente Formation (mapped in conjunction with the British Geological Survey); UK: ?; GER: ?; BEL: part of the Gent Formation.

Origin of name
Named after the estate Singraven, close to the German border in the eastern Netherlands (Van der Hammen & Wymstra 1971).
