Grey and green-grey, silty claystones containing a few thin sandstone beds and some thin, brown, intercalated dolomite beds.

Depositional setting

Floodplain and limnic depositional environment.

Overlies the Caledonian basement unconformably.

Definition of upper boundary

Overlain conformably by the sandstone-dominated Buchan Formation.
