Informal (Van Adrichem Boogaert & Kouwe 1995).
Lithological description
Claystone. Deposits that belong to the Epen Formation, but are not attributed to either the Ubachsberg Member or the Geverik Member. Where the Epen Formation is split in two by an intercalated Ubachsberg Member the claystone interval above that member may be called upper Epen member.
Depositional setting
Cyclic repeated delta progradation into a predominantly lacustrine basin.
Definition of lower boundary
Overlies the sandstones of the Ubachsberg Member.
Age
Serpukhovian - Bashkirian.
