Lithologische beschrijving
In the southeastern Netherlands the unit consists of two to three coarsening-upward successions. The basal one is a small-scale alternation of hard siltstone and claystone layers, capped by a thin layer of clean sand. The upper unit has a sandier character with again a relatively clean thin sand at the top. The sands may be very fine (105-150 µm) and locally indurated into sandstone. The calcium-carbonate content decreases upwards, while the glauconite content increases in that direction. The colour varies from light grey to dark green.
Afzettingsmilieu
Most likely the distal marine expression of a northward prograding deltaic system. The initial water depth might have been approximately 100 m and shallowing upwards. This corresponds with a probably NW-SE oriented deltaic lobe (perpendicular to the palaeo-coastline), which thins northwards.
Definitie ondergrens
Somewhat gradual transition to the underlying Liessel Member.
Definitie bovengrens
Conformable or slightly unconfomable contact with the overlying Oosteind Member; may be rather indistinct. However, the upper part of the Reusel Member is a coarsening-upward succession of, generally, more argillaceous, small-scale alternation of sand and clay layers with higher gamma-ray readings opposed to the clean, washed-out, fining-upwards Oosteind Member with very low gamma-ray readings.

Ouderdom
late Paleocene (Thanetian).
Oorsprong naam
Named after the village of Reusel in the province of Noord-Brabant, in the vicinity of the type well.
Vorige benaming(en)
Erroneously interpreted as Ieper Clay Member (NAM & RGD 1980).
