GeoTOP Almere now available in BRO 3D

The BRO 3D web services have been expanded with GeoTOP Almere. The web services have now been updated to the most recent version of GeoTOP, version 1.6. That means  that the subsurface of Almere and the surrounding waters can also be viewed in 3D.

GeoTOP Almere and surroundings cover the southwestern Flevopolder. Thanks to this extension of the BRO 3D web services, it is much easier to view the surface and subsurface in that area integrally and in conjunction with other data. This is very welcome for, for example, the development of Almere Pampus and other development plans in the southwestern Flevopolder. This also applies to the route of the possible new road and rail connection between Almere Pampus and IJburg.

Power of BRO 3D web services

By adding the GeoTOP Almere model area to the BRO 3D services, it is easier for users to view the subsurface in 3D in that area as well. It saves users a lot of time and work needed to download and edit the latest GeoTOP model in their own GIS environment. This requires a lot of computing capacity and expertise. This has been solved with the update of the BRO 3D services. Thanks to the Indexed 3D Scene Layers (I3S) that comply with the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) standard, users can use the model data directly in a web browser or in ArcGIS Pro.

Voxel Scene Layers

The reason that the Almere area had not already been included in the BRO 3D web services is that the expansion of GeoTOP with Almere and the surrounding waters coincided with the launch of the BRO 3D web services at the time. That has now been added. GeoTOP's Voxel Scene Layers have now been updated; the beta versions of the Object Scene Layers are not included in this update.

Small overlap between Noord-Holland and Rivierengebied

Due to a small overlap of GeoTOP Almere with the model areas Noord-Holland and Rivierengebied, those areas have become a bit smaller. This was already noticeable with the release of GeoTOP in October 2023 and now also applies to the addition of GeoTOP Almere to the BRO 3D web services.
