Stratigraphic and hydrogeological units in the subsurface models DGM, REGIS II, and GeoTOP are designated with an alphanumeric code, for example, ‘BX’ for the Boxtel Formation (stratigraphic unit in DGM and GeoTOP) and ‘BXk1’ for the Boxtel Formation, first clay layer (hydrogeological unit in REGIS II).
At the end of 2024, the codes of the three models will be revised. This involves three changes:
- Adding the group code, for example, NAWA becomes NUNAWA (Upper North Sea Group, Naaldwijk Formation, Walcheren Member);
- Changing some formation codes, for example, MT becomes MA (Maastricht Formation);
- Changing model unit codes in GeoTOP, for example, AEC becomes ECga (Echteld Formation, channel belt generation A).
These changes ensure that the codes displayed in the visualizations at the portals match the codes in the Stratigraphic Nomenclature of the Dutch subsurface.
